The Indigenous Language Instructor's Program offers individuals a certified pathway to teach their ancestral languages within their communities. It also caters to learners aiming to achieve fluency in specific languages. As the sole Ontario program authorized by the Ontario College of Teachers to grant certification in Algonquian languages, Lakehead's NLIP focuses on expanding the pool of Indigenous language educators. Participants gain both the qualifications to instruct their native tongue and the tools to become advocates for preserving Indigenous languages and traditions. Throughout the program, students explore language structure, teaching methodologies, and instructional strategies within a culturally supportive framework that honors traditional educational values.
