Anthropology encompasses the comprehensive, interdisciplinary examination and recording of human life across time. As an Anthropology student, you'll explore diverse subjects ranging from ancient stone tools and bone remains to modern economic systems and regional speech patterns. Our Anthropology Department features four specialized branches: Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, and Sociocultural Anthropology.
Our curriculum combines classroom instruction with seminars, laboratory work, and field experiences to give you balanced training in both theory and practice. You'll work in state-of-the-art labs and access exceptional anthropological collections that have supported major discoveries and been used by leading experts.
Our internationally recognized faculty conduct cutting-edge research, offering exceptional undergraduate research opportunities. They frequently collaborate with students on specialized courses and projects, with many undergraduates presenting at national conferences and making early career impacts. We also operate a summer field school providing practical training in excavation techniques, lab analysis, artifact identification, and site mapping. While most field schools occur in Northwestern Ontario, we offer international options through partnerships in Croatia, Israel, and Italy for those seeking unique study experiences.
