The discipline of Gender and Women's Studies has undergone significant evolution since its establishment at Lakehead University in 1990. While exploring women's lived realities and gender structures, you'll investigate diverse areas including: Sexual Identity, Queer Perspectives, Legal Frameworks, Male Identity Studies, Global Feminist Movements, Environmental Feminism, Equity Issues, Media Representations, and Bodily Autonomy. Through these subjects and others, we aim to reveal how societal beliefs limit individuals and how these constraints can be overcome to promote fairness. Our Women's Studies Department employs a multidisciplinary feminist methodology. Our distinguished professors specialize in feminist jurisprudence, women's wellness, LGBTQ+ scholarship, and digital cultural studies, offering courses that effectively prepare students for advanced degrees in Social Justice, Canadian legal education, healthcare professions, public safety careers, and numerous other fields.
Pursuing an Honours degree in Women's Studies allows you to pair your coursework with a dual major in Aging Studies, Behavioral Science, Historical Analysis, Literary Arts, First Nations Scholarship, Social Theory, Nature-Based Education, or Teacher Training, alongside focused study paths in Community Services.
