This 25-week course (length may differ for certain intakes) trains students for careers as pipefitters, steamfitters, sprinkler installers, gasfitters, or plumbing apprentices. Participants will cultivate essential skills in safety practices, time and resource management, and the use of both manual and powered tools. Hands-on shop projects strengthen students' abilities in installing, repairing, and maintaining piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for water, steam, chemical, and fuel distribution, as well as wastewater management across residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
Graduates of the Foundation program qualify for SkilledTradesBC credits toward Pipefitter, Steamfitter, Sprinkler Installer, Gasfitter, or Plumber Level 1 apprenticeships, plus 375 work experience hours. Participants must specify their chosen apprenticeship path, with guidance available from KPU Apprentice Services.
Foundation programs develop in-demand job skills. To advance as an apprentice, students must secure employer sponsorship and register with SkilledTradesBC.
