The Bachelor of Interior Design (IDSN) program offers a comprehensive four-year education for aspiring interior design professionals, concentrating on the built environment. KPU's highly regarded Interior Design degree has maintained accreditation from the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) since 2000. As British Columbia's first accredited program, our CIDA recognition guarantees that our curriculum not only meets but surpasses professional benchmarks, equipping students with the fundamentals to become licensed interior designers.
Our Interior Design faculty is committed to:

Delivering a holistic design education encompassing all aspects of interior design, with particular focus on developing expertise in theory, research, analytical thinking, creative solutions, design development, technical documentation, digital tools, presentation methods, professional standards, and human-centered design approaches
Equipping students for careers in interior design and architectural practices
Establishing a balanced foundation of practical and theoretical knowledge aligned with NCIDQ standards and the North American definition of interior design
Fostering professional development and career preparedness
The program replicates real-world design practice through its "virtual design studio" approach, featuring interconnected coursework that prioritizes measurable learning outcomes and core competencies. These include: leadership, innovative problem-solving, collaboration, time management, communication skills (written, verbal, and visual), investigative abilities, visual analysis, technical proficiency, social responsibility, and global awareness.

Throughout the degree, students will:

Develop effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
Acquire and implement technical expertise
Conduct design research and historical analysis
Learn professional business operations
Join The Interior Designers Institute of BC
Complete hands-on work experience in a design firm
Apply accumulated knowledge through Design Studio projects
Tour professional offices, material suppliers, manufacturing facilities, completed projects, museums, and galleries to deepen industry understanding
Prospective students can attend annual fall information sessions to ask questions and review current student portfolios, which have proven invaluable for those considering the program.
