The Thanatology department provides an extensive selection of courses covering topics such as bereavement fundamentals, ethical dilemmas, end-of-life care, suicide studies, childhood perspectives on mortality, spiritual inquiries, life transitions, cultural representations, trauma responses, and social equity issues. Undergraduate students can enroll in a hands-on practicum featuring a 45-hour internship, along with a grief counseling course that emphasizes practical training in foundational therapeutic techniques.
Since 1976, King's University College has maintained its pioneering Death Education curriculum, with over 4,000 learners having completed our specialized courses on mortality and loss.
Established in 1994 through collaboration with Western University's Centre for Continuing Studies, the Grief and Bereavement Studies certificate program now primarily delivers its curriculum through digital distance learning. This remains one of fewer than ten comparable programs across the continent.
