The Department of Sociology explores today's most critical societal challenges.
Through sociology, you'll learn to link personal experiences with wider social frameworks and systems.
As a branch of sociology, criminology examines both legal and non-legal punishments, analyzing their impact on individuals, law enforcement, judicial systems, governments, and societal responses.
Our department provides degree programs in both Sociology and Criminology. First-year students enroll in Sociology 1020, 1020WX, or 1021E to qualify for second-year specialization in either field.
Graduating with a Sociology or Criminology degree creates opportunities in diverse fields like legal practice, media, social services, education, public policy, law enforcement, and government roles.
We provide three- and four-year Major programs in Sociology and Criminology, plus four-year Honours Specializations. Students can also pursue Minors or combine these degrees with related fields such as Psychology, Political Science, Social Work, or History.
