This one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate equips professionals with expertise in victimology and support services to better understand and assist victims and survivors of crime. Participants gain insights into victims' rights, traumatic grief, and how crime affects individuals within the justice system. The curriculum examines victimization theories and historical context through trauma-informed, victim-focused lenses. Coursework addresses topics like child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault while incorporating equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) frameworks. Graduates will be prepared to support victims, partner with service organizations, evaluate needs for appropriate referrals, and participate in risk assessments for individuals and communities. A culminating project offers hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and assessing victim support initiatives and advocacy efforts.
