Humber's Paralegal Education diploma program delves into the theoretical, practical, and advocacy components of law that licensed paralegals can address under the Law Society of Ontario. You'll gain hands-on expertise in advocacy, legal research, and procedures for various courts and administrative tribunals. The curriculum covers business law, small claims court cases, summary criminal offenses, provincial violations, landlord-tenant disputes (along with numerous other tribunals), employment law, and mediation techniques. Through classroom participation, role-playing exercises, presentations, and simulated trials, students hone their verbal advocacy abilities.
The program includes essential courses on professional ethics, accounting principles, business strategy, and entrepreneurship to equip you for establishing and running your own paralegal firm.
Throughout the program, you'll refine crucial communication skills, particularly in English speaking and writing - vital competencies for professional success. Graduation requirements include demonstrating proficiency in both small and large group oral presentations, including simulated legal proceedings and role-playing scenarios.
