Humber's Developmental Services Worker (DSW) diploma program equips you with essential skills to enhance the physical, psychological, and social well-being of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Our experienced instructors are practicing professionals in developmental services, and our intimate class settings provide personalized learning opportunities. The curriculum is continuously updated through collaboration with industry specialists to maintain relevance.
The program starts with foundational knowledge about the developmental services field, including different disability types and community resources. You'll then explore positive behavior support methods (using simulation exercises), individualized care approaches, co-occurring disorders, health maintenance, medication basics, specialized support for autism and complex conditions, alternative communication methods, and trauma-informed responses. The program culminates with training in relationship-building and critical thinking skills. As a developmental services professional, you'll empower individuals with disabilities to fully engage in community life, assisting those with intellectual challenges, autism spectrum disorders, physical limitations, or other support requirements.
