This program equips students to become certified Level II dental assistants. Aligned with their studies and current regulations, participants gain hands-on experience through placements at Georgian College's Oral Health Clinic and community settings, covering all clinical duties, specialized practices, health education, business operations, and treatment coordination. The curriculum includes training in creating dental devices and handling various dental materials. Students examine the importance of professionalism in dental assisting and cultivate their professional identity. Upon completion, graduates are prepared to work as dental assistants in diverse environments, collaborating effectively with healthcare teams in general or specialized dental offices. Career opportunities include positions in dental hygiene or denturism practices, community health clinics, public health agencies, military services, insurance firms, or as representatives for dental supply companies.
Applicants must hold OSSD or equivalent with the following:
Mature students, non-secondary school applicants (19 years or older), and home school applicants may also be considered for admission. Eligibility may be met by applicants who have taken equivalent courses, upgrading, completed their GED, and equivalency testing.
