Students engage in a globally acclaimed co-operative marine engineering cadet program developed collaboratively with Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security (TCMSS) and Canadian shipping firms. The curriculum emphasizes building essential skills for working within a ship's marine engineering team, aligning with the TCMSS Engineering Officer Education Training (EOET) standards. The last two semesters welcome candidates possessing an STCW Reg. III1 Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency, who may qualify for advanced standing, bypassing the initial two years. Completing semesters five and six could exempt them from written tests for 2nd and Chief Engineer Officer roles. Graduates are prepared to serve as marine engineer officers of the watch, with career opportunities as engineering officers on various commercial vessels—including bulk carriers, tugs, ferries, tankers, cruise ships, coast guard, and fishing fleets—across Canada and internationally. The program also paves the way for leadership roles in the maritime sector. With additional sea experience and advanced training, graduates may obtain academic credits and certifications to progress toward Chief Engineer status.
