Cultivate strong concentration skills while observing, analyzing, creating, and discussing visual art. These abilities form the foundation of artistic practice across all visual mediums and formats. In this program, you'll sharpen your focus through every stage of engaging with artworks - from initial observation to critical discussion. Such competencies are vital for any artistic endeavor, no matter which visual medium you prefer. Both classroom and real-world experiences will broaden your understanding of contemporary art practices and potential career paths. This expanded viewpoint helps you make informed decisions about future opportunities, whether in independent studio work, the fine arts/cultural field, or commercial art ventures.
Through VCAD's program, you'll create a professional portfolio and artist documentation that opens doors to higher education via our partnerships with leading Canadian art schools.
Begin with two semesters of core foundation classes, then choose an intensive studio art certificate to finish your two-year Ontario College Diploma. The complete VCAD program can be accomplished in just three semesters. Our intensive 15-week certificates, equivalent to two full semesters, offer more than 600 hours of practical studio experience. Weekly, you'll collaborate with rotating instructors who each contribute their specialized knowledge and artistic viewpoint, deepening your comprehension of the art form while developing diverse technical skills.
