The Department of Dramatic Arts (DART), housed within the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts (MIWSFPA), explores the discipline as both cultural expression and educational methodology. DART provides a BA Honours program in Dramatic Arts, with specialized Concentrations available for honours students in Drama in Education and Applied Theatre, Performance, Production and Design, and Theatre Praxis. The department also features a four-year BA with Major in Dramatic Arts, a three-year BA Pass degree, plus a Certificate program in Drama in Education and Applied Theatre and a Minor option for non-DART majors.

Central to these programs are courses that blend theoretical knowledge with practical application (praxis), combining classroom instruction with hands-on studio work to examine the historical and cultural connections between creative expression and critical analysis.

Every DART degree program emphasizes the integration of theory and practice. Students develop comprehensive skills in performance, design, and technical theatre while studying critical analysis, theatre history, dramaturgy, and dramatic literature.
