Discover the techniques, workflows, design principles, and creation of artistic glasswork. You'll shape glowing, liquid glass into stunning artistic pieces. Classes covering design theory, color application, sketching, and art history will establish a solid base for the diverse glassworking methods practiced in the studio. These encompass cold processing methods, color implementation, mold creation, and manufacturing.
The spacious, well-lit studio comfortably fits its four work areas. Every station comes with a workbench, marver, glory hole, essential hand tools, and pipes needed to handle the molten glass from the two 200-pound standalone furnaces. Fully renovated in 2013, the studio features cutting-edge facilities with generous annealing space for student projects. Supporting the hot shop is a complete cold shop containing all necessary tools for refining and finishing your creations, including access to a diamond saw and sandblasting equipment.
Our rigorous 15-week certificate programs, equal to two full-time semesters, deliver more than 600 hours of practical studio experience. Weekly, you'll collaborate with rotating instructors who contribute their specialized knowledge and approach to the craft. Small class sizes guarantee equipment availability and meaningful faculty interaction. You'll also receive support from skilled studio technicians and enjoy extended studio access outside scheduled class times.
