Aviation Technician - Avionics Maintenance (Co-op) is a two-year Ontario college diploma program. Students will learn about aircraft avionics systems used in general aviation, corporate, charter transport category aircraft, and helicopters. Graduates gain cutting edge electronic system skills and knowledge on aerodynamics, safety, and flight control systems.The electronic communication and navigation system is the heart of all aircraft. Specializing in repairing and maintaining these systems is a vital piece of the aviation industry that produces rewarding and in-demand careers.
With the Transport Canada approved Aviation Technician – Avionics Maintenance program, you’ll learn to become a vital and specialized member of the aviation team. You’ll learn about all aspects of aircraft avionics systems used in general aviation, corporate, charter transport category aircraft, and helicopters. Along with developing cutting-edge computer and electronic systems skills, you’ll also study aerodynamics, safety, and flight control systems. As well, with aircraft constantly evolving and improving, you’ll have opportunities to adapt and upgrade your skills and you progress through the program, embarking on a life-long learning journey. When you graduate, you'll be prepared for an exciting career with Canadian and international avionics-approved shops and aircraft manufacturing companies.
The Aviation Technician - Avionics Maintenance (Co-op) program is a Transport Canada approved program (TC-2011-08-4128) with a co-operative education component. This program provides the knowledge and skills required to start a career in aircraft avionics maintenance, which is responsible for servicing, repair and maintenance of aircraft electrical and electronics systems such as communication, navigation and data systems. This program covers all aspects of aircraft avionics systems used in general aviation, corporate, charter transport category aircraft and helicopters.Learning OutcomesThe graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to1. Apply the current regulatory requirements to the safety and airworthiness of aircraft.2. Perform major and minor maintenance tasks on airframes and engines.3. Install and maintain aircraft electrical systems.4. Install and maintain aircraft instrument systems.5. Install and maintain aircraft avionic and flight control systems.6. Apply the principles and practices of aircraft maintenance engineer category “E” to all work situations.Career InformationFanshawe’s Aviation Technician – Avionics Maintenance program prepares graduates for careers with Canadian aircraft maintenance and aircraft manufacturing organizations. It also provides 18 months of approved basic training credit towards the 48 months experience required to obtain a Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license, 'E' Category.

Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, or a mature applicant with the following courses:
Grade 12 English (C or U)
Grade 12 Math (C or U)
Students who do not meet the admission requirements are recommended for academic upgrading. A conditional offer may be possible with proof of enrolment. Alternatively, applicants may choose to do the one-year Pre-Technology preparatory program that provides all the admission requirements for this program.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test with a minimum score of 79 for the Internet-based test (iBT), with test results within the last two years
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test with an overall score of 6.0 with no score less than 5.5 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years.
