The Film and Screen Arts (FMSA) program equips emerging filmmakers and media artists with essential skills and frameworks to realize their creative visions.
Master the core principles of film and media production, spanning traditional analog methods to cutting-edge digital technologies like virtual and augmented reality. Whether your ambition is to work as a cinematographer, director, set designer, sound engineer, or editor, FMSA shapes you into a compelling visual storyteller. This program emphasizes hands-on, studio-centered education while incorporating a wide range of critical and cultural studies. Through both practical and theoretical coursework, you'll develop professional-level expertise in film, video, media installations, sound design, and beyond.
As you advance, you'll acquire vital technical and organizational skills while creating individual and collaborative film/media projects. During your third year, you'll engage in intensive conceptual development while expanding your understanding of cinematic history and contexts. The program also offers internship opportunities, either working with ECU faculty or within Vancouver's vibrant film industry.
Your fourth year centers on a capstone project - an extended creative endeavor that evolves through development, production, editing, and finalization. This work can be showcased at festivals, galleries, exhibitions, or digital platforms. Ultimately, you'll graduate with a standout portfolio that opens doors to professional opportunities and artistic growth.
