The Psychiatry Department at Dalhousie University provides Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs focused on psychiatric research. These advanced degrees prepare students with essential expertise for careers in mental health and psychiatric research fields.
The MSc curriculum addresses contemporary subjects such as clinical trials, genetic studies, brain imaging techniques, community-based research, psychotherapy studies, early treatment approaches, and tailored psychiatric care. The PhD program features in-depth statistical training and hands-on psychiatric coursework. Both programs enhance students' abilities in research evaluation, experimental design, statistical methods, data interpretation, and academic writing. MSc candidates undertake an original thesis project, while PhD students must pass comprehensive examinations and complete dissertation research.
