Dalhousie University's Mechanical Engineering graduate programs aim to deepen students' expertise in their chosen specialization through cutting-edge research, lectures, tutorials, and hands-on lab work. Students gain practical experience in modern, fully-equipped laboratories to master their field. The department boasts 23 faculty members, 70 graduate students, and more than 300 undergraduates.
The Master of Engineering (MEng) is a course-focused program requiring seven courses, departmental seminar participation, and a project. This professional degree serves as a final qualification (not leading to PhD studies).
Unlike MASc or PhD programs, MEng projects don't require original research contributions. Instead, they must demonstrate a student's capacity to complete a challenging engineering project using knowledge from advanced undergraduate and graduate coursework in mechanical and materials engineering. Consequently, the MEng degree involves minimal research components.
