This rigorous 12-month program equips students for doctoral studies in economics or careers as economic analysts across public and private sectors. MA candidates undertake coursework in microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, econometrics, plus three specialized economics courses.
Specialization options for the MA remain flexible, contingent upon available graduate economics courses each year and students' ability to find faculty supervision. Those wishing to explore areas beyond current course offerings must arrange supervision from a department faculty member to pursue their chosen focus.
Entrance requires an Honours BA (or BSc) in Economics (not Business) with an average of at least 75 percent (B+ or 3.3 on a scale where 4.3 is the maximum GPA) at Dalhousie standards in classes in economics and related fields. An Honours degree in Economics is expected to consist of a four-year (i.e. 20 credit) bachelor's degree .
