Mineral Resource Engineering focuses on the technical, environmental, and economic considerations involved in extracting and processing Earth's mineral deposits. The program emphasizes industrial and research applications for both underground and surface mining operations, covering resources like coal, oil shales, metals, gold, and industrial minerals, along with mineral processing methods. Additional coursework includes reservoir engineering, offshore drilling, and oil/gas production. This discipline trains engineers for specialized roles in mine design, rock mechanics, ground stability, processing technologies, and drilling operations.
The Master of Applied Science (MASc) degree is particularly suited for those aiming for research and development careers. This program requires four courses, a seminar component, and a research thesis. Students must present and defend their thesis findings orally. Typically, full-time candidates fulfill all degree requirements within 16 to 24 months.
