The graduate certificate program in Mental Health and Substance Use equips aspiring human and health service professionals with essential knowledge and practical skills for transitioning into roles involving service planning, program development, and evaluation for individuals facing mental health and/or substance use challenges. These positions enhance and expand upon clinical services offered by other team members within direct service organizations. With professionals increasingly working across sectors to meet the multifaceted needs of these populations, students will explore methods to assess and improve service quality at individual, program, and systemic levels. Participants will develop a stronger appreciation for community partnerships, public engagement, inclusive practices, and advocacy when supporting individuals with complex conditions. Key themes like self-determination, skill development, resilience, recovery, and empowerment will be explored through person-focused, community-driven, and population-wide approaches.
