Working as part of a collaborative healthcare team, Personal Support Workers (PSWs) deliver individualized, compassionate care to people of all ages and health statuses in diverse settings such as long-term care facilities, community health organizations, and hospitals. Conestoga's PSW program develops highly sought-after professionals who positively impact people's lives through meaningful caregiving. The curriculum guides students from foundational skills to full professional readiness, training them to assist with daily living activities like personal hygiene, household tasks, meal preparation, and family support as outlined in care plans. The program emphasizes creating safe, comfortable environments for all clients, including those with behavioral challenges, injury risks, or palliative care needs, with students earning provincial certifications in these specialized areas. Hands-on learning forms the core of Conestoga's approach, allowing students to immediately apply their knowledge through innovative training models like the Living Classroom and ONSITEs (Ontario Sites for Integrated Teaching and Experiential Learning). These unique environments blend classroom instruction with real-world care settings, particularly benefiting students working with elderly populations in retirement and long-term care facilities.
