Established in 1973, Concordia's Master of Arts in Art History ranks among Canada's most prestigious and enduring graduate programs in the field. The curriculum features diverse annual seminar options centered around faculty research specializations spanning medieval, Renaissance, modern, and contemporary art and architecture worldwide (encompassing print culture, photography, interior design, crafts, and fashion). Faculty introduce students to current theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches prevalent in the discipline (including decolonial methods, postcolonial theory, queer theory, social art history, and sensory studies). Students may opt for internship opportunities at Montreal's museums, galleries, or cultural institutions. Following coursework completion, candidates work closely with their advisor to conduct source evaluations before producing an innovative thesis that advances art historical discourse.
