Earning a PhD in Economics equips you with specialized knowledge in one of our department's diverse research fields. You'll collaborate with renowned faculty members who offer guidance across disciplines including applied econometrics, labor economics, monetary policy, financial markets, and strategic decision-making theory. The program leverages the resources of CIREQ (Centre Interuniversitaire de Recherche en Économie Quantitative) to foster academic partnerships among Montreal's leading universities, with opportunities to enroll in advanced electives at Concordia, McGill, and Université de Montréal. Our distinguished professors regularly publish in top-tier academic journals like Econometrica, American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic Studies, and Journal of Monetary Economics.
An honours degree in economics, from a recognized university, or the equivalent, with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 is required. An applicant may be required to take up to 12 prerequisite undergraduate credits in addition to, but as part of, the regular graduate program. Some applicants may be required to pass a qualifying program, as a condition for entry into the regular MA program.
