Forge your unique artistic journey within one of Canada's leading contemporary visual arts programs. As a Studio Art student, you'll enjoy the freedom to specialize in or blend any of our seven disciplines: Ceramics, Textile Arts, Intermedia (including Video, Performance, and Digital Arts), Painting and Drawing, Photography, Print Media, or Sculpture and Installation. Within our comprehensive Faculty of Fine Arts, renowned across all artistic disciplines, you'll master diverse technical and conceptual approaches to art creation, positioning you at the cutting edge of this dynamic and multifaceted field.

In professional-grade studios with industry-standard equipment, you'll explore various creative processes and methods. You'll also cultivate critical analysis skills to assess artwork while shaping your personal artistic vision through discussions about contemporary art with active professionals. Select from studio courses that mirror current art world trends, or pair your studio work with an Art History degree to achieve a balance between practical creation and academic study.

Cegep Profile: No specific profile required. However, following a profile in the arts may help applicants build a successful portfolio.

Additional requirements

Applicants must submit the following directly to the Department of Studio Arts:

  • Portfolio
  • Portfolio information form
  • Letter of intent
  • Photocopy of your recent transcripts
  • Image list

Minimum Cut-off Averages: (Minimum Cut-off Averages should be used as indicators. Data may change depending on the quality of the application pool.)

  • Quebec Cegep (CRC): DEC
  • Canadian High Schools: 65% or C+
  • External Transfers: C
  • International Bacc. (IB): A minimum total of 27 points. Admission to competitive programs is based on strong portfolio/auditions and, normally, above-average grades.
  • Bacc. Francais: A minimum grade of 11/20 for students who have completed their Bacc. francais outside of Quebec. Admission is competitive and based on strong portfolio/auditions and, normally, above-average grades.

Admission to most programs is based on portfolio/audition evaluations as well as academic grades. Applicants selected for admission have normally achieved grades that exceed minimum requirements.

English language requirements: Direct Admission: TOEFL (paper-based) score between 540 and 576. Conditional Admission: TOEFL (paper-based) score between 505 and 539; MELAB minimum score of 74, 2 on speaking tests; CAEL minimum score of 50; CAE minimum score of C; CPE (advanced qualification for proficient users only) minimum score of C.
