In Ceramics, you'll experience deep engagement with the field – blending theory and practice – while cultivating versatile skills in creating functional, artistic, and innovative ceramic works. Examine the significance of utility, sculptural methods, new technologies, historical influences, and modern applications through an immersive studio curriculum. You'll gain material expertise through specialized courses covering different creation techniques, including wheel throwing, diverse hand-forming approaches, and mold/casting processes. The Ceramics program enables students to specialize while maintaining broad disciplinary awareness, enhanced by intensive studio courses (CRMC 320 or CRMC 323). Through hands-on experimentation, students build thorough technical knowledge of ceramic arts.
