The Painting and Drawing program blends time-honored artistic methods with innovative modern practices. Here, you'll explore diverse creative avenues - from classical oil techniques to graphic novel creation and three-dimensional installations. Your technical abilities, artistic vision, and conceptual thinking will grow through intensive studio work combined with theoretical studies, art history, and cultural analysis.

Drawing encompasses various mediums while investigating movement, line work, spatial composition, and narrative elements. Painting courses delve into color theory, application methods, tool usage, and the fundamental principles of painting across abstract, representational, and experimental styles.

Our instructors are practicing artists with both global and community connections, offering valuable perspectives on today's dynamic art scene. You'll cultivate creative problem-solving skills and learn to transform concepts into visual expressions. Cegep Profile: No specific profile required. However, following a profile in the arts may help applicants build a successful portfolio.

Additional requirements

Applicants must submit the following directly to the Department of Studio Arts:

  • Portfolio
  • Portfolio information form
  • Letter of intent
  • Photocopy of your recent transcripts
  • Image list

Minimum Cut-off Averages: (Minimum Cut-off Averages should be used as indicators. Data may change depending on the quality of the application pool.)

  • Quebec Cegep (CRC): DEC
  • Canadian High Schools: 65% or C+
  • External Transfers: C
  • International Bacc. (IB): A minimum total of 27 points. Admission to competitive programs is based on strong portfolio/auditions and, normally, above-average grades.
  • Bacc. Francais: A minimum grade of 11/20 for students who have completed their Bacc. francais outside of Quebec. Admission is competitive and based on strong portfolio/auditions and, normally, above-average grades.

Admission to most programs is based on portfolio/audition evaluations as well as academic grades. Applicants selected for admission have normally achieved grades that exceed minimum requirements.

English language requirements: Direct Admission: TOEFL (paper-based) score between 540 and 576. Conditional Admission: TOEFL (paper-based) score between 505 and 539; MELAB minimum score of 74, 2 on speaking tests; CAEL minimum score of 50; CAE minimum score of C; CPE (advanced qualification for proficient users only) minimum score of C.
