Humber's Carpentry and Renovation Technician diploma program teaches both technical skills and business knowledge for the home improvement sector. You'll learn about all aspects of residential construction, fundamental building systems, and compliance with building regulations. The curriculum includes essential business training in areas like project management, cost estimation, financial planning, and effective communication. Hands-on learning occurs in Humber's specialized workshops. This accelerated program lets you finish four semesters' worth of coursework in just three semesters (one year), helping you launch your career faster.
Canada's home renovation market is thriving, with annual spending reaching approximately $41 billion for home improvements and upgrades. Graduates can pursue roles as assistant construction supervisors, renovation assistants, or specialize in particular trades like drywall installation, hardwood flooring, or finish carpentry. After gaining industry experience, you may advance to construction management positions or establish your own contracting business.
To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U or equivalent)
Two Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above
or
Mature student status
or
College or university transfer status
CAEL Online or In-Person: Overall band score of 60; Cambridge English Tests Minimum FCE/CAE/CPE Score -> Minimum B2 First / C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency Score: B2 First / C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency 169 (with no single subscore below 162) ; Duolingo Language Test+: 105 and above+ ; IELTS Academic Level: Overall 6.0 AND No band below 5.5; MET: 56; PTE: 53 - 57; TOEFL Academic Level: 550 for paper-based test OR 80 (20L, 20W, 20S, 20R) for internet-based test
