The Applied Coastal Ecology (ACE) program prepares students for professional roles in managing coastal natural resources, restoring ecosystems, conducting environmental assessments, and related fields. The ACE curriculum combines core studies in biology, geography, chemistry, and oceanography with practical training in salmon and shellfish management, stream rehabilitation, rainforest ecosystems, wildlife conservation, and other specialized areas.
Participants in the ACE program develop essential technical skills including database administration, geographic information systems (GIS), land surveying, professional documentation, and public speaking. Through hands-on, community-focused initiatives, students acquire job-ready competencies while developing a deep understanding of how coastal environments respond to human pressures—and how to implement strategies that reduce ecological harm and promote sustainable systems.
