Europe and Russia have significantly influenced and continue to impact global development. Guided by leading specialists, students in this multidisciplinary program will explore the area's rich history, social structures, political systems, economic frameworks, languages, and cultural traditions, all within an international perspective. This distinctive curriculum uniquely combines Europe, Russia, and Eurasia, emphasizing the deep social, cultural, economic, and political connections across these territories. Students can concentrate their research on specific nations, groups of countries, or regional organizations like the European Union. Alternatively, they may examine cross-cutting topics such as population movements, international civic organizations, commerce, EU expansion, diplomatic relations, and how globalization shapes identity politics. The program is supported by the Institute of European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies, among Canada's longest-standing regional studies initiatives, which collaborates extensively with Carleton's Centre for European Studies, a recognized EU Centre of Excellence.
