Carleton's Bachelor of Global and International Studies (BGInS) program leverages the university's unique strengths and prime location to deliver an undergraduate education focused on global affairs, equipping students with competitive skills for today's workforce. The curriculum consists of four key elements. A series of core courses establishes a shared multidisciplinary base in global studies for all participants. Students can then choose from 18 specialized tracks that explore particular international themes or regional studies, allowing for personalized academic focus.
The program incorporates both language learning and international experience components, ensuring graduates emerge with not just academic knowledge but also broader cultural perspectives.
Africa's diverse communities, traditions, social structures, regions, and historical narratives have both shaped and been shaped by global interactions. This interdisciplinary specialization examines numerous Africa-related topics such as democratic transitions, development challenges, cultural transformations, population movements, colonial legacies, and equity issues. Students will also explore broader development politics and North-South dynamics. Offered through Canada's sole independent, degree-awarding African Studies institute, this specialization provides unparalleled focus on the continent.
