This comprehensive curriculum combines theory, music history, and performance training, with specialization options in piano, vocals, guitar, string instruments, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and composition.
This two-year credential can be transferred toward a Bachelor of Music degree and serves as a springboard for advanced studies in Music Education, Music Therapy, and Liberal Arts.
Program objectives
Develop auditory recognition and conceptual understanding of tonal music elements including melody, harmony, and rhythm, encompassing sight-reading, keyboard skills, and musical analysis to address performance challenges and assess music's evolution through artistic trends and cultural influences.
Acquire practical knowledge of musical heritage, literature, and the progression of musical structures within Western classical tradition to contemporary works, including the ability to aurally identify styles, forms, and genres.
Develop university-level research capabilities, written communication skills, and critical thinking appropriate for third-year undergraduate studies.
Execute performance repertoire meeting third-year university standards both individually and collaboratively, applying theoretical knowledge, musicianship, keyboard proficiency, and historical context.
Gain working knowledge of music technology applications for both creative composition and academic research purposes.
