Biochemistry explores the molecular composition, arrangement, and operations of living organisms. Its objectives include discovering the chemical elements and biomolecules (like DNA, RNA, and proteins) within cells, understanding their roles, interactions, integration into biological networks, and their impact on cellular and organismal functions. The Biochemistry Program offers a comprehensive curriculum that equips students with in-depth knowledge of living systems at the molecular level. This interdisciplinary program is collaboratively administered by the Departments of Biological Sciences and Chemistry.
At Brock University, our instructional and research laboratories are integrated. You'll employ cutting-edge methods and tools to tackle biochemical challenges, using the same advanced equipment as our faculty researchers. The curriculum starts with foundational courses in chemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology. During your third and fourth years, you can specialize in either biology or chemistry, selecting from courses covering metabolic processes, enzyme mechanisms, macromolecular architecture, genetic information systems, and advanced bio-organic and biophysical chemistry.
