Biochemistry explores the molecular composition, arrangement, and operations of living organisms. This field aims to discover and characterize biological molecules (including DNA, RNA, and proteins) within cells, examining their roles, interactions, integration into living systems, and impact on cellular functions. The Biochemistry Program offers comprehensive training, enabling students to grasp biological systems at the molecular level. This interdisciplinary program is collaboratively administered by the Departments of Biological Sciences and Chemistry.
Brock University integrates teaching and research laboratories, allowing students to tackle biochemical challenges with cutting-edge equipment identical to what faculty use in their investigations. The curriculum starts with foundational courses in chemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology. During third and fourth years, students can specialize in either biological or chemical aspects, selecting from courses covering metabolic processes, enzyme mechanisms, macromolecular architecture, genetic information systems, and advanced bio-organic chemistry.
