The Department strives to equip students with an in-depth understanding of both spoken and written French, along with the rich literary and cultural traditions of France and Francophone regions. Alongside our French-taught classes, we provide English-language courses (labeled MLLC) that may count toward a French Studies degree. Our curriculum covers French language instruction, translation studies, linguistics, and global Francophone literature.
Our cultural studies explore the interconnected development of painting, architecture, music, and historical milestones alongside literary works throughout French history. Students can enhance their learning through immersive programs in French-speaking environments, including intensive spring and summer courses in Quebec.
