The Department of Dramatic Arts (DART), housed within the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts (MIWSFPA), explores the discipline as both a cultural and educational endeavor. DART provides a BA Honours program in Dramatic Arts, with specialized Concentrations available for honours students in areas like Drama in Education and Applied Theatre, Performance, Production and Design, and Theatre Praxis. Additionally, the department offers a four-year BA with Major in Dramatic Arts, a three-year BA Pass degree, a Certificate program in Drama in Education and Applied Theatre, and a Minor in Dramatic Arts for students outside the DART program.
Central to these degrees are praxis-based courses that combine theoretical learning with hands-on studio work, examining the historical and cultural connections between creativity and critical analysis.
Every DART program blends academic study with practical application, providing students with a comprehensive foundation in performance, design, and technical skills while emphasizing critical thinking, theatre history, dramaturgy, and dramatic literature.
Each year, DART organizes a performance season featuring student-led productions, guided by faculty, guest artists, and industry professionals. Students engage deeply with theatre practice, collaborating as performers, creators, and production team members.
