This combined theoretical and hands-on program provides a comprehensive framework for studying children, adolescents, and young adults, encompassing: diverse backgrounds, socioeconomic disparities, special needs, family structures, cultural influences, social environments, educational settings, peer relationships, community contexts, media influences, and global challenges. This extensive foundation prepares graduates for diverse career opportunities working with youth.
Examine childhood and adolescence through multiple academic perspectives. Our distinctive curriculum incorporates insights from psychology, education, sociology, anthropology, media studies, and criminal justice - along with other fields - to develop a nuanced understanding of young individuals and their worldviews.
The Child and Youth Studies Department (CHYS) provides four-year Honours BA and Major BA degree options, a three-year BA general degree, and a combined Honours BA/BEd (Primary-Junior) program. These interdisciplinary programs blend theoretical knowledge with practical applications, examining youth development across cultural, economic, legal, familial, educational, social, and community contexts. Drawing from psychology, sociology, anthropology, criminal justice, education, and cultural studies, our academic approach synthesizes multiple disciplines to foster a holistic understanding of childhood and adolescence.
Applicants must have
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD);
Minimum six Grade 12 4U or 4M-level credits, including program specific prerequisites.
A minimum admission average of 70% (many programs require a higher average)

IELTS - overall 6.5, no band below 6.0
TOEFL - overall 88, no band below 21
CAEL - overall 70, no band below 60
PTE - 58
IELP Level 5 - Successful completion of Level 5 of the Brock Intensive English Language program
CAE (C1 Advanced): 176 minimum score
CPE (C2 Proficiency): 176 minimum score
