The Master of Engineering in Smart Grid Systems and Technologies (MEng SGST) is a specialized graduate program designed to equip students with the skills needed for researching, planning, designing, deploying, maintaining, commissioning, and managing Smart Grid systems within the power utility industry and related fields.
This MEng SGST program builds upon BCIT's extensive research experience, subject matter knowledge, state-of-the-art facilities, experienced instructors, and strong industry collaborations. Students completing the MEng in SGST will gain practical expertise in core Smart Grid technology principles used in Critical Infrastructure, with applications spanning renewable energy, eco-friendly transportation, and intelligent urban systems.

Qualification Requirements

Competitive Entry: Two-step process Step 1: Meet the following entrance requirements English language proficiency: Graduate Studies – English Studies 12 (67%) or equivalent Entry options: one of the following: Option 1: standard entry Post-secondary education: bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering, with a minimum GPA of 2.4 out of 4.0 (60%) based on the entire program. Option 2: alternate entry Alternate Entry is for applicants who do not have a bachelor's degree in electrical or electronic engineering and may need to take bridging courses before being accepted to the program. Applicants are required to have the following post-secondary education: Post-secondary education: bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 2.4 out of 4.0 (60%) in a relevant discipline, such as: software engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, information, or communications technology. IELTS Academic - Overall score 6.5 No band less than 6.0. TOEFL (iBT) - Overall score 86 No section score less than 20.
