We maintain that every graduate should demonstrate the capacity for independent, rigorous research, possess broad familiarity with diverse historical societies, and understand various interpretive approaches and methodologies for studying them. Our curriculum is designed to help students gain profound historical understanding while cultivating both discipline-specific and versatile, transferable skills.
To earn a Major in History, students must complete 48 credits in history or related courses, with at least 24 credits taken at Bishop’s University. These 48 credits must incorporate:
Introductory courses offering wide-ranging overviews and foundational training in historical techniques.
200-level courses exploring national histories or global developments alongside historical theories and movements.
200-level courses with an international perspective.
200-level professional courses focusing on practical historical work in archives, museums, and heritage institutions.
300-level advanced seminars dedicated to thorough examination of specialized topics.
