Automotive service technicians can work at dealerships, independent repair shops, fleet management organizations, component rebuilders, auto parts stores, and body repair businesses. Their expertise covers a wide range of vehicle maintenance and repair tasks. Professionals in this field often focus on particular specialties within automotive repair. After gaining experience and further education, skilled technicians can progress to roles like shop supervisor, service manager, or even start their own business.
By registering as an apprentice within two years after finishing the program, your classroom training may be credited toward Level 1 Automotive Service Technician certification.
Program Learning Outcomes
Perform tasks following provincial and/or national regulations, relevant laws, industry standards, and ethical guidelines.
Adhere to health and safety protocols in line with current laws and regulations.
Identify and fix issues with engines and related systems. Troubleshoot and repair vehicle electronic communication networks.
Address problems in driveline components. Diagnose and correct electrical and HVAC system malfunctions.
Service steering, suspension, braking systems, control mechanisms, tires, hubs, and wheel bearings.
Repair safety restraint systems, body parts, accessories, and interior trim components.
