This one-year Veterinary Assistant Ontario College Certificate program spans two semesters, equipping students with essential theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills for delivering excellent care in veterinary and animal care environments. The curriculum covers diverse topics such as restraining and handling animals, surgical assistance, prevalent animal illnesses, behavioral studies, lab techniques, grooming methods, business operations, and customer relations. A key emphasis is placed on cultivating effective communication and interpersonal abilities. Instruction methods combine conventional classroom lectures and labs with online, hybrid, and off-site learning experiences. While concentrating mainly on companion animal care, the program also addresses large animal, shelter animal, and laboratory animal care.

Graduates can pursue various career paths in veterinary practices, animal shelters and rescue groups, wildlife rehabilitation centers, research institutions, as well as pet grooming and care services.
