The Bachelor of Child and Youth Care (Honours) program equips you for professional roles in direct service or leadership positions, focusing on the wellbeing, support, and healthy development of young people, families, and communities. Evolving social dynamics are creating more intricate interpersonal relationships, leading to growing mental health and behavioral issues among children and adolescents. This creates a strong need for skilled professionals capable of offering care, support, and advocacy for vulnerable youth and families. Combining classroom instruction with hands-on experience through multiple fieldwork placements, you'll learn to design prevention and intervention approaches for mental health and behavioral concerns while driving positive change for individuals and systems to build stronger communities. As a student, you'll cultivate an anti-oppressive, strength-focused approach to practice. The curriculum emphasizes innovative prevention and intervention methods tailored to diverse populations. Specialized training in nature-based programs, social innovation, and entrepreneurship positions you as a leader in youth and community work. Collaborative projects prepare you for interdisciplinary teamwork to address family and child needs. You'll gain skills in knowledge sharing and service improvement, with two fieldwork placements and a full work term (paid or unpaid) providing real-world application opportunities. The program includes valuable certifications like Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), while developing your ability to advocate effectively for individuals and systemic change.
