This major explores the geographical aspects of modern Australian urban and regional landscapes. Geography offers a comprehensive approach to understanding the relationships between populations, locations, and ecosystems. Current geographical research delves into post-colonial perspectives, the rise of worldwide digital economies, indigenous matters, socioeconomic inequalities, migration patterns, gender and spatial dynamics, and the worldwide spread of mass media trends.
Urban Studies represents a more recent academic field concentrating on equitable resource distribution in metropolitan areas, critically evaluating public access to limited city services including accommodation, infrastructure, schooling, and career opportunities. The Urban Studies program primarily investigates the political, financial, and social influences affecting urban development and municipal governance.
These practical investigations into metropolitan quality of life and urban design form the theoretical foundation for professional Urban Planning careers. Completing the Geography and Urban Studies major is mandatory for students pursuing the University's certified Planning degree program.
