The Graduate Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) caters to TAFE or Vocational Education instructors needing an advanced qualification as mandated by their employers. This program also serves seasoned educators seeking specialized credentials in ESL instruction. UOW's Graduate Diploma in TESOL provides robust theoretical frameworks and comprehensive hands-on training encompassing wider educational perspectives. The curriculum consists of six mandatory subjects, two electives, and incorporates a practical teaching placement. Course delivery blends online and in-person formats, with the flexibility to pursue studies completely through distance learning.
It is assumed that students will have at least a three-year undergraduate degree, preferably including subjects related to the teaching of English (for example, TESOL, English Literature, Applied Linguistics). No teaching experience is required.
