The Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) provides specialized training for educators aiming to teach English abroad or within Australia. This program particularly benefits current primary and secondary school teachers seeking ESL certification. The University of Wollongong's TESOL graduate certificate combines strong theoretical knowledge with hands-on teaching experience, covering educational principles and practical training. Alongside studying teaching methodologies and grammatical challenges, students complete a supervised practicum in an ESL setting. The curriculum includes three required courses and one optional subject. Successful graduates may advance to either the Master of Education (TESOL) or Master of Education Advanced (TESOL) programs, with full credit transfer for all completed coursework (24 credit points).
A three year degree, a teaching qualification or appropriate equivalent professional experience. (The Graduate Certificate in TESOL assumes an undergraduate background and some practical classroom experience in TESOL.) It provides the formal theoretical component and supervised practicum experience required in a formal accredited teaching qualification.
