Criminologists employ a multidisciplinary perspective to analyze criminal behavior, societal definitions of harm, and the factors that determine which acts are deemed criminal. They also study societal reactions to crime, assessing the effectiveness and equity of these responses for offenders, victims, and communities. Social Science integrates diverse academic fields to critically evaluate contemporary issues and how conflicting theories and values shape policies and real-world applications.
The UOW Bachelor of Social Science (Criminology) combines core social science courses with specialized Criminology studies. Students can enhance their program by selecting a minor from any university discipline that permits cross-faculty enrollment. Opportunities include international electives or local experiences to develop intercultural competencies. This program prepares graduates for advanced studies in research, Social Work, Public Health, Occupational Health and Safety, and Education.
