This program offers specialized education in infectious diseases, covering Medical Microbiology, Tropical Infectious Diseases, and Public/Environmental Health Microbiology. As infectious diseases become increasingly prevalent, the need for research on their control has never been greater. The Master of Infectious Diseases equips students with the expertise to properly diagnose pathogens and create strategies for disease prevention and immunization.

Designed for science and healthcare professionals pursuing careers in research labs, hospital diagnostics, clinical settings, public health organizations, and global institutions, this program delivers comprehensive training in infectious disease management. The curriculum explores medical microbiology, tropical diseases, and environmental health microbiology, along with either an independent research project or practical research experience.

Most classes are conducted in-person, with only three units available online. Therefore, full-time students must attend sessions in Perth.

Qualification Requirements

To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have
a a relevant bachelors degree1 or an equivalent qualification as recognised by UWA
and
bi the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 60 per cent in the Level 3 units or
ii at least three years of relevant fulltime professional experience or
iii evidence of adequate research outputs as recognised by UWA
And
c for students who have completed 48 points of the Graduate Diploma in Infectious Diseases a course UWA weighted average mark of at least 60 percent
1A relevant bachelors degree includes a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences or Bachelor of Science in a biomedical or biological discipline Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Bachelor of Dental Science or a bachelors degree in applied biomedical science or public health medical technology nursing pharmacy public health and veterinary science

Minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 must include Academic Reading and Writing modules
TOEFL - Internet-based Test iBT An overall score of 82 with a minimum score of 22 in the Writing section 18 in the Reading section 20 in the Speaking section and 20 in the Listening section for all courses.
TOEFL - Essay Rating Test of Written English TWE of 45 and either 230 Computer-based or 570 Paper-based score.
