The Law and Society major delves into how legal systems and social policies influence every aspect of our lives, covering topics from human rights and criminal justice to Indigenous rights, free speech, and religious freedom. This program analyzes the national and global effects of laws and policies on society. What is the dynamic relationship between legal systems and social change? How are laws implemented in practice? Does legality always equate to fairness? Students will investigate compelling topics while honing their ability to comprehend, utilize, and evaluate socio-legal theories and challenges. Develop expertise in interpreting, implementing, and adjusting socio-legal frameworks while strengthening capabilities in research, analytical thinking, collaboration, and effective communication.

By emphasizing law's societal aspects, this major pairs exceptionally well with disciplines like political science, media studies, social sciences, cultural studies, economics, or anthropology.

Alumni enter diverse professional paths across corporate, nonprofit, and government sectors, particularly in policy development and legal research positions. Career opportunities exist in judicial reform organizations, civil and criminal courts, public administration, educational institutions, and law-adjacent fields such as organizational leadership, personnel management, journalism, labor relations, civil liberties advocacy, community services, and paralegal support.
