This field blends writing expertise, content creation, investigative techniques, and analytical reasoning to help students present complex global matters in clear, engaging formats. At UTS, we approach journalism as an essential public service, believing every thriving society depends on strong, independent media. Our program cultivates graduates who think critically, grounded in the ethical, intellectual, and political frameworks necessary for professional success.

Located in central Sydney near the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), the Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) emphasizes practical learning, offering real-world experience through UTS Central News and partnerships with leading outlets like ABC and The Guardian. This degree equips students with a deep appreciation for journalism's democratic function - facilitating public discourse and amplifying diverse voices. Through immersive training, students master digital content production, news gathering, analytical writing, and multimedia storytelling across platforms including web, audio, television, print, and social media.

Students can enhance their career prospects by combining journalism with another major from five available options in the Bachelor of Communication, developing versatile skills for media and communication roles. These programs provide adaptable competencies for evolving media landscapes.
Graduates enter the field prepared for various positions such as reporters, producers, editors, digital content creators, investigative journalists, or media researchers.
